I am a male, 29 years old, 5'11"and weigh 255lbs. I have lost 50lbs over the last 7 months, but am now stuck in a rut at 255lbs. I do 45 minutes of intense cardio 5 days a week as well as 45 minutes of weight lifting in high repetitions.(3 sets of 12-15) I avg. 650 calories lost per cardio work out session and probably another 300 calories from weight lifting.
How many calories should I consume daily to loose 2-3lbs per week?
You're probably burning around 4,000 or more calories on work-out days, so you could easily lose 2 pounds per week on 3,000 calories a day.
Have you used the tools here to calculate your daily burn?
That seems to be what I am reading, but it seems like a lot. Am I not loosing weight now because I am eating to little? I have been stuck at 255lbs for around a month now. I have been eating around 1850-2200 per day with a weekly splurge.
I think your problem is that you are not eating enough. Using your stats, I calculated your bmr which is the number of calories your body absolutely needs to run, and I got 2360 cals. This means that you should be eating at least 2360 cals a day. Eating below this can slow your metabolism and make losing weight harder, which is likely your problem.
If you are sedentary, you are approx burning 2832 cals (bmr x 1.2). So this means if you were eating 2360 and didnt exercise, you would have a deficit of 450 cals, so you should be able to lose a pound a week without exercise. To lose 2 lbs a week, you should try to have a deficit close to 1000 cals a day, so you can continue to exercise to burn the extra calories. You should never have a calorie deficit of more than 1000 cals a day because that too can slow your metabolism.
Good Luck.
It does sound like you're not eating enough. Essentially, as the poster above pointed out, you could eat 2832 and still have a 950 calorie deficit on days you work out.
Try bumping up the calories to more like 3000 for a few weeks and see if that makes a difference!
In addition to what everyone else has said, in order to lose 2 pounds a week you need to have a weekly Calorie deficit of 7000 Calories (it takes 3500 Calories to burn a pound). Keep in mind that with all the working out you are doing you are building muscle as you burn off the fat, so your weight won't drop the way you might think it would. You should get your BMR tested (they might be able to do this at your gym if you go to one) to see exactly where you are at as this will change as your body composition changes. If you know your exact BMR this will help guide you in determining how many calories you should be eating. It does sound like you aren't eating enough and you also might want to consider the ratios of the foods you are eating. If you aren't eating the right combos of carbs to fats to proteins you won't loose weight or build muscle as quickly as you would like. Try getting some nutrional guidance from your gym if they offer that, if not, try upping your Calorie input and if that alone doesn't make a difference try adjusting the amounts of carbs protein and fats you are eating. Good luck and congrats on the weight loss so far!
