Running and chest/breast pain - needing advice from women!

Quote  |  Reply

This morning when I woke up my right pec (little bit in the front of the armpit) was a bit sore from lifting yesterday, no big deal - I stretched and it went away.  Then when I was running (about 7 hours later), wearing my regular sports bra, I got really sharp pain that felt like (for lack of a better way to describe it) my breast tissue was ripping from my muscle in the same spot I was sore this morning.  It hurt more when my breasts bounced more.  If I crossed my arms over my chest it didn't hurt anymore.  It ended up going away within about 5 minutes but it was really painful.  Has this happened to anyone before?  What can I do about it?  I feel that my sports bra is tight enough.  Any suggestions would be helpful!

It's an inadequately supporting bra, sorry!

I get the same issue when I go a day without wearing a good bra. It's the crossing one's arms over the chest and making it go away that's the clue.

You might have torn a muscle or some fascia from the combination of lifting and running. Ice and rest. And keep hoisting that breast as high as it will go, because any traction on that damaged part will make it worse.

Good luck!

Well darn - but, on the bright side, I will see this as a sign of my successful weightloss that my sports bra purchased 5 months ago is now too big Laughing

ETA:  OR, I stretched it out =/

i've had chest pains before when running... check your caffine intake if it feels like it's your heart.... heart palpatations can hurt.... check your form when lifting.... you may have pulled a muscle.... or you might want to layer up on sports bras.... is it that time of the month... they may just be sensitive right now....

if it is none of these... then go see a doctor

While I don't have that particular issue, I distinctly remember the general consensus the last time this was a topic is "Get an Enell bra" and/or "wear double sports bras" ;)

Id have to go with trustwomen on this: ur bra is too big now! If uve lost weight then that backs it up (well done u!) Im a DD cup and have to have a VERY tight sports bra and I wear a regular bra underneath. Works wonders. Started doing this after i read in a magazine that when u run a mile, ur boobs if unsupported, will bounce the equivalent of 50-100m in the air! (Not sure how scientifically accurate that claim is, but i figured it couldnt hurt to errr on the side of caution).

I love Champion brand sports bras. They are the only brand I wear. I'm a G cup but only 34" under my breast. It's tough to find the right fit but Champion has one that I LOVE. It has adjustable straps which are a necessity for me but near impossible to find in a sports bra!

I got it at www.championcatalog.com

I've written about it in my journal if you'd like to read it! See journal entries on page 5.

Try buying your next bra a band size smaller than you think you need (a tape measure is essential here- band size = #inches plus 5).

One brand of sports bras that has an adjustable band is moving comfort. I personally love them.
