What is your opinion or thoughts on using total body power sculpt videos (it does a lot of squats/lunges combined w/ upper body/lots of pushup etc).  How do you think these videos compare to "weight training".  I looked at Melkor's weight training site suggestions for beginners and intermediate and most of the moves are the same.

When you all talk about the "pink dumbells" what weight is that?  I started these videos with 5lbs weights and I am moving up to 8lbs.  Is this considered "weight training" do I need to use more weight, or can the video?

I am just wondering if I am doing this right-I want to lose weight but I also want definition.  Hope this made sense.

"Pink dumbbells" as discussed here, are any weight that doesn't challenge you.   For instance, if I can easily lift 8 lb. dumbbells  (say shoulder press) for 15 or more reps and I don't get sore or have to work at it, then it's a "pink" dumbbell.    If however doing 10 of those shoulder presses with 8 lb. dumbbells take a lot of work and by 12 you are struggling to keep good form, then they are not pink.

I had shoulder surgery, and I'm currently using 8 lb. dumbbells for my shoulder presses.  They challenge me and I am sore afterward.  Right now they are a good weight for me to use.  Hopefully in a coupe of months I will be doing shoulder presses with 12 or 15 lb weights... and then the 8 lbs would be too easy and thus qualify as "pink" -- at least for me.

 I understand this concept-thanks

Well, playing along the lines of what classifies a weight as being a "pink dumbell" I am using the same concept as far as the body sculpting videos.

I did 2 power sculpting videos back to back (each focused on different parts of the body) and I was sore for 2 days afterward.  I am sort of new to strength training.  I, unless I hear otherwise and with good argument, will keep using it as a source for my strength training until it is too easy for me.

I hope someone else chimes in with more informed opinions though...otherwise it's the blind leading the blind in here. Cool
