OK, CC-ers!  Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is ... To help the newly-created CC World Runners Club run around the world!

Every day that you run, whether it's 1 mile on the treadmill or the Boston Marathon, report in via a PM or a post (but not both!!!!).  If you count it as a run, so do we, but try not to include straight walking warmups/cooldowns (jogging counts, though). 

You may send your miles (or kilometers) in daily or weekly.  Updates will be done weekly as of Tuesday 11:59 PM.  Miles will be added up from Wednesday through Tuesday for our weekly totals. 

YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE MILES AT ANY TIME!  Even if you only contribute one mile, once, we'll still welcome it, so don't be shy!  As long as it's run during the week we are working on, it counts.

We will start the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.  We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. 

Start date of the run:  August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight. 

Let's see how fast we can do this!!!  Please post here if you want to join and contribute your mileage!  We welcome any help we can get!

Run Around the World!

I have posted the preliminary map here:

As often as possible, but no less than once a week, I will report the progress and give one randomly-picked runner who posted the previous week 3 choices of which way to move the run (eg. choice of next city to aim for, whether to cross a certain country versus another, etc).  The route may change some based on personal preferences as expressed by the weekly posters. 

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, to be considered a "run around the world," a total distance of the length of the Tropic of Capricorn must be travelled (namely 36,787.559 km or 22,808.28 miles).  The route I have traced (although it will be refined as we run) is 38,389.52 Km (or 23,854.13 miles)

T-shirts for participants will be made available as we work out the details! :)  I'm also working on a website where we can keep track of some of the details.

Suggestions for how to enhance the run will be happily accepted.

I am in. I liked the route 1174669, i have a few suggestions but they can wait. We have a LOT of ground to cover.

From publicity and participation pt of view, please post about this thread in the "CC Track Club " thread. There are many seasoned runners out there who i feel would like to join (and they dont visit the learn to run thread). And they RUN 20-30 miles a week !!

Okay I ran 3.1 miles today, so that will be roughly the beginning this week for me, but I know I can do better than this.  I will try and start running 15 miles a week.  Once I graduate then I am going to dominate distances.  Oh that will be fun!

I'm currently running about 20 to 25 miles a week (although this week has totally sucked because I've been traveling on business and enjoying myself far too much to schedule in workouts).

Sign me up - I've always wanted to travel around the world :)
I'm so in. Now I can tlk myself into going to the gym a little easier maybe, if other ppl are counting on me to get em a little further round the world. I can just picture the other runners on the treadmills beside me giving me questioning glances when I start talking to myself. "almost there. We'll be in Texas soon. *huff huff* maybe even in *huff* Boston by next week?... *puff puff*"

Big props to zarelha and anyone else in the Learn to Run thread that had a hand in coming up with such a fun and interactive way to motivate the runners here!!

I'm in, although no one gets to mock me for the 15ish miles I'm at right now.  Working on getting it back up in the 25 range!  It's just not going on schedule quite so well...  :)
(Moved from learn to run thread) If we get 5 runners with 20mpw and 20 runners accounting 10 mpw each it is 300 mpw combined (300 mpw is a good mileage i feel). And that means about 84 weeks for 25,000 miles. Let's target 100 weeks or 104 weeks (2 years) or sooner !! What say ? 

To make it more exciting we can celebrate milestones (first 1000 miles, then 5,000 miles and so on). Caps/T-shirts at every milestone, 'door prizes' (random) at every milestone, say $25 X 3 at every milestone. We can also have 'running on vacation' or 'running thru hills' prize (just a thought). Then occasional fastest runner award of the month (may be). Maximum real races per month award. Max mileage per month award. Injury-free running award (gosh i just keep blabbering !!).

Sticker/logos to update in ur c-c profile. Those who use mp3 players can upload some adrenaline rush songs at a common site and the rest can download. Also those who stay arnd hills can post pictures. Infact, u can post pictures of the geography as we move on. And may be they can come on T-shirt/sticker on c-c etc.
Welcome one and all!  Hope to get a bunch more.  Tell your friends! :)  We need to do this in a year - by August 1, 2008 at the latest!

Route: If you don't see the maps, and the route, it means you are either too close or too far.  Try going out or in until you see the red "pushpins."  Also, some areas you can only see with the "Satellite" view, so turn that on and you should be able to see it.  I haven't started the "actual" route yet, so that one's blank.

Motivation:  Yes, we'll definitely have some milestones, prizes, etc. on a weekly basis.  Also, share your stories if you've ever been to the particular areas we are running through! :)

I'm in!  I should be doing some regular mileage with my tri training, although it may not be as voluminous as some of the other members...but I'm more than happy to post my runs as I go.
