So many of us have tried them all: Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, none of them work. Some of them help you learn how to get the weight off, but the moment you stop, BANG!, you're back up again. Well, that sucks, doesn't it?
That's because the diet industry, all of it is, is designed to make sure that you, the average overweight American, don't succeed. After all, if you finally lose the weight and keep it off, than suddenly you don't need to keep buying their stuff. And they're out alot of money.

This is written very well and it is the most sensible advice I have ever read.  There really isn't a magic way to loose weight, it takes patience with yourself and perservence.  Thank you.  Susan Denni
Bumping this up, as I'm seeing a lot of folks posting calorie consumptions that are counterproductive for weight loss and health.

HI!

I am a newbie and have been spending my lunch hours recently perusing the posts here (instead of walking, tsk tsk) and have gleaned much appreciated info.  I have an initial question, tho- I gaind about 7 lbs over Christmas, which I agree is not that much given the holiday, but the fact is that there is no way I consumed an additional 3500 calories  seven times.  I also expended a little more than usual in energy by way of frantically shopping and preparing and packing and running after other peoples children and the like.  Am I in error with this thought; I have a scale that measures the BMI, BF and H20, and all that reads normal-ish.

Also, I quit smoking three years ago (YAY never have cravings) and I have packed on 30 pounds over that time, prior to the recent 7 lb gain.  Will I really be able to get rid of it; I am chained to a desk all day and have an hour commute, too, so I beg off on the exhausted thing almost daily.  I get home and cook the dinner, clear the dishes, put in the laundry, then flop down on couch and fall asleep while I rub hubbies head and neck and back. I usually wake up with very intense cravings for sweets or cheezies or something ice cold like popsicles and so I bought the sugar free juice pop thingies.

NOTHING fits anymore at all, and I am getting anxious and stressed out over that; I spent mucho $ on suits and bags and cases and shoes etc. as I work in a law firm and cannot go out and spend it all again and expect my husband to not shoot me in the foot or worse.  Really, the bags and cases still fit but the shoes and clothes do not.  I did not realize my feet would get fatter, too! I do not think I am at a stage yet where I need counselling; I know the roots of my dilemmas, I just need to know if I have hope for losing all this. I am exercising in the livingroom more and rubbing hubbies head less, for the last 2 days anyway.

Hey--super random side note--just read your whole post, and you have some great information listed!  Thanks for putting that together.  So my random note--there are actually 4 types of lipoproteins, the one not mentioned is IDL.  Not that it probably needs to be there for anyone, but just thought you might want to know.  :)
Thank you so much for putting this where I could run into it.  I have tagged it and will reread it often when I need a reminder and a little motivation to keep eating the proper way to lose weight slowly and safely.
