Alright guys, well, I just got back from my grandma's for Thanksgiving, and for the past week I've been averaging about 2,700 calories, and NOT jogging in place or doing any type of running. So that's still probobly about 500 calories over my maintenence right? Apparently NOT since I actually lost a pound or two! How could I LOSE weight eating MORE?! My mom and I are both really upset and I'm definatley increasing to 3,000 ASAP.

Do I just have a high metabolic rate or what? The only real exercise I do is a short, lightweight strength training session that lasts maybe a half-hour or less.

You could possibly be overestimating your portions. However.

Study: Abnormal caloric requirements for weight maintenance in patients with anorexia and bulimia nervosa. - Weltzin TE, Fernstrom MH, Hansen D, McConaha C, Kaye WH, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, PA.

"CONCLUSIONS: To maintain stable weight after weight restoration, restricting anorexic patients require a significantly higher caloric intake than do bulimic anorexic patients. Differences in caloric needs between normal-weight bulimic patients with and without histories of anorexia may depend on the methods used to correct caloric requirements. Body surface area may be the most precise correction factor across different subgroups of eating disorder patients. Elevated caloric requirements, when coupled with reduced food intake, may particularly contribute to relapse in anorexic patients." Am J Psychiatry. 1991 Dec;148(12):1675-82."

Keep going, Zeb - 3000 or bust!

Have you spoken with a nutritionist?  It sounds like you may need to speak to one about proper re-feeding.

Best of luck to you!

I know supposedly "a calorie is a calorie" but I read about a study a while back (cannot recall the source) that women who ate healthy foods were able to consume, on average, 400 calories more than women eating less healthy foods. I know you eat uber-healthy so even if you weren't trying to gain weight that study would indicate you have higher intake needs.

It has something to do with the "thermic effect" of different foods. I'm not an expert, but I think the basic idea is that calories from different types of foods act differently on the body and take different amounts of energy to digest. For example, refined carbohydrates digest more easily and with less energy than unrefined ones. Proteins and complex carbohydrates have more of a "thermic affect" which means they create more of a burn. I've also read that high fiber or high calcium diets can decrease the amount of fiat you digest. The fiber can pull fat through without giving your body the chance to digest it fully. So you could actually be absorbing less fat than you think. If your stool floats or appears oily, then this may be happening.

are you SERIOUS! wow, metabolism so weird.......

i gained at least 30 in 3 weeks! i wasn't eating the '3500cal per pound' i must store water differetly, was't fluctuations cause i've been maintaing or like a month

i wasn't allowed to even do weights until 100pound,  i dont believe it burns anything majorly though.

increase, it'd help, i know it is like ultimtely rare that i could gain that fast, as in all gainers find trouble, so don't worry. you might have a fast metabolism, looking at my parents i'd say mines slow, it may also have to do with water storage.

drink more water might be a suggestion, even just for general health
