Help and Advice

Quote  |  Reply

So I have been counting calories for probably three months, but I have stayed at the same weight for the past year (around 150 give or take some depending on the day) I am usually below on my calories everday so I don't know what else to do. I have been going to the gym almost everyday (I take a rest day periodically) for the past couple months, but it seems like nothing is changing, any ideas? I am completely stressed over this because I have been trying for so long and nothing has changed.

Thanks,

Coco

It is possible that you are not eating enough, but we need more information to tell that. What is your age/weight/height/male or female? How many calories do you eat a day? And, do you exercise? If so how many cals do you burn?

I am a 20 year old female, 5'2" and 150 lbs. I usually eat around 1600 calories a day and burn 300 or more when I work out depending on what cardio I do. I switch off and on between lifting and cardio and I am not sure how much I burn when lifting but it is usually for only 45 minutes or so. I am always so worried to eat more because I figured it will be counter productive, but that might be my problem...

Your target number of calories seems to be fine. How long have you been doing your current workout routine, because sometimes your body becomes used to certain things. And if you have been sticking to 1600 cals a day for awhile, your body be used to that. You could try upping your calories for a week and eat at maintainence and then back down to 1600, to try to break your plauteau. On the other hand, if your just starting you might need more time to see a difference.

Sorry I couldnt be more helpful.

what is your protein/carbs/fat ratio? maybe you are eating too many carbs. I am not a professional, but i know that carbs turn into sugar which can result in stored fat in the body. When i personally ( i am short too) eat alot of carbs i just cant loose. I would actually try bumping down your intake for a week or two. I know everyone will read this and be like "oh no your going to go into starvation mode" but short people need to eat less!! I work out 3/4 week vigorously and like to stick at 1200 cals and minimal carbs. that is what works for me but everyone is different! Perhaps you do need to eat more! If nothing is changing you have to mix something up!

Protein - 14.5%

Fat - 37.3%

Carbs - 48.2%

Is there some place online where I can look to see what ranges these percentages should be at? I have really never paid that much attention with them before and that might help. Now that you mention it I do normally eat a lot of carbs, it is just so hard to cut them out since they are in everything!
