I'm a typical student, I like going out and partying or going to the pub for a few drinks. I have to say though, it's on average every 2 weeks that I drink because my bf is t-total and I only drink when I go to my old hometown to see my friends.
Well, I sort of realized when I was out for halloween that my weight has really affected how much I can drink! Plus I actually hate wasting calories on booze when, around my heavy drinking friends, I can not stick to the "only a few and I'll dance them off" mindset I go out with.
My bf is also going through a tough time right now and asked if I would not drink around him for a while. I'm up for a wee challenge so I agreed.
So the question to all you calorie-counters and t-totalers: What do you drink when you are out? Is there anything that you drink to fool your body into thinking you are drinking alcohol? (I'd be quite happy being hyper all night, I just can't see myself staying awake and full of fun all night drinking diet coke)

im a big fan of bloody mary's (with vodka) of course..so most of the time when i go out i'll order myself a virgin bloody mary(spicy) to me it taste just the same oh and no salt added.

I avoid any fruity sweet anything on most occasions-especially shots...but if Ive had a few mixers and someone buys the group a round of Red Headed Sluts-I cant say no haha. If Im at dinner-a single glass of wine is fine (for me)..

I would suggest coconut water cut with lemonade. There are always kiddycocktails :)
I don't drink much as it is, but when I was teetotaling a few years ago I'd stick to tea and coffee because I hate pop. Then again, I'd also put sugar in it.
I don't know if there's anything that will fool your body into thinking it's drinking alcohol, unless you decide replace it with a caffeine or sugar high. Then, obviously, you run into calories again, but I guess it's give and take over what you want. :)
I had one Red Bull a couple of years ago and that made me feel all out of it, with the added bonus of tasting like swill. MmMMMm. Delicious. O_o
And kudos to you for being so sensitive to your boyf's request. I know it's not the only reason why you're wanting to cut back, but it's really great that you're taking his feelings into consideration.
I stopped drinking alcohol almost 7 weeks ago, mainly to cut the calories, of which the alcohol I was drinking-quanity mostly-was significant. I switched to drinking a chimney glass 3/4 full of club soda, topped off with Grapefruit Juice. It's refreshing, very low calorie and doesn't have a lot of sodium. I started drinking that when my husband and I would go to our favorite pub and I didn't want the alcohol, but like you, didn't want soft drinks or cola's. Now I drink my club soda/grapefruit juice concoction at home, several glasses a day. I figure I'm getting 1/4 cup or less grapefruit juice per glass, but it's better than anything else I've tried, and as I said, it doesn't have a significant amount of calories.
Good luck! If you find a tasty alternative, please do share what it is. I'm always open to try new things.
Oh, by the way, since I quit drinking alcohol and switched to my soda/juice thing, I don't miss the alcohol at all. I never have hang-overs, I never feel bloated, and I don't have to kick myself in the butt for indulging in something I know I'll regret.
Oh, I never thought about simple replacing it with diluted fruit juices! (how simple.. haha). At least I'd be getting some extra vits from it other than caffeine, which I probably drink too much of already.

God I can't help it, I love Agave. I drink tequila straight because I love its flavor. I can't seem to replace that, heh.
However, if I am not having a bender, I usually replace some of the liquor with just lime slices and club soda or 100% cranberry juice, club soda and lime slivers. Really good. If you're not watching the alcohol, Absolut Citron or Absolut Raspberri goes great in this drink.

I am right with you as an Agave fan, and have definately not found anything to replace it! However, I'm working on avoiding it, both for weight loss and general health...we'll see how it goes as the holidays creep closer!
Never been a huge club soda fan... does it really taste good with just a little fruit juice? Definately going to have to try that...I love water but sometimes a little change would be nice!

Teetotalism or being t-total is completely abstaining from alcohol.
I don't like sweet drinks or foods particularly and have therefore found that slimline (diet) tonic water makes a good low-cal drink with a little bite. Other times I'll order a white wine spritzer made up with soda water... takes longer to sip through. And sparkling mineral water with a shot of lime cordial isn't too sweet and sickly.

Same here, but minus the cranberry juice. Just the soda and lime make me feel like I'md rinking a vodka tonic which really doesn't taste like much more than soda water anyway

I know it'll sound bad, but why not enjoy a sugar free energy drink? That's the only thing I can think of. Some places have sugar free redbull behind the counter. Less cals :) Or just go with a normal one. They'll pour it over ice so you won't even look like you're not having a drink.
But why go out into alcohol land if you can't drink? I'd be annoyed :)

Non-alcoholic drinks,
Fruit smooties
Tea/coffee.

EDIT my dads drink when he was loosing weight. Diet tonic water and anestoisa bitters. Just a couple of drops in the Tom Collins glass of tonic. But BEWARE! Anestoisia bitters is alcoholic. A few drops isn't going to hurt, though
I was never really much of a drinker, but I've found that I rarely hang out with my friends who do drink now. Not because of the calories, but because I'm too busy dancing during the time that they're drinking and they don't choose to dance.
Also I'm now a complete lightweight so if I do go out and drink I have much more effect from just a drink or two.
get yourself a sugarfree redbull but check the cals on that first.... sip slow, drink ice water with lemon in between. Follow with diet cokes so you don't add more calories. I go out all the time now without drinking... you really just get used to it. I like waking up the next day not feeling guilty about the literally 1,000's of calories from a night of shots and mixed drinks... not to mention no hangovers! Good luck!
