Can I lose weight while still having dessert?

Quote  |  Reply

I was wondering, could I still be losing wait if I had a brownie or ice cream for dessert, if I wasn't going over on my calories? Would it be possible to use up any extra calories I have on these treats if including them, I still am under my daily budget of calories?

Of course I wouldn't deprive my self of balanced meals just to have something sweet everyday, but it would be nice to know that having a brownie wouldn't be ruining my diet.

If it fits into your calorie goal, why the hell not!!!?

I'd sacrifice lunch for a brownie any day (if I could ward off the inevitable hunger moments later)... my mouth is seriously watering!

Of course. There is nothing magical about deserts that cause you to gain weight. Most people just under estimate how many calories are in them. So as long as it fits in to your food plan it's not a big deal. :) My personal favorite is 72% or Bittersweet chocolate from Trader Joes. A little of good chocolate goes a long way!

I lost 23 pounds and over the course of losing the weight I still had dessert each night after dinner. I would have light ice cream, a baked apple, a vitatop, or a sugar free pudding cup so whatever I had I kept it under 200 calories to stay within my allowed calories.

But as long as you don't go over your calories you can have whatever you want, but the healthier the food content is the better it is for your body.

Thank you all for the fast replies! I went to the bathroom and when I came back I found my question already answered!

Anyways, I'm glad to hear that. It's a big relief now to know I don't have to be stressing out as much as I have been over what I have for dessert. Now I can plan days where I eat a little less to have something sweet. Good to know since the holiday season is coming up and I've been hoping for some blueberry pie on Thanksgiving. Wink

of course you can! as long as it fits into your daily allowance. sort of like how the weight watchers plan works except they track it by "points"... just have to "save" your calories for the big splurge! enjoy!

Yes you will still loose weight! About a couple of weeks ago I decided to have 4 brownies and a large extra loaded stuffed crust pizza! It was so good. I was so sure I was going to gain a few lbs or stay the same. When I stept on the scale I was suprised to see I had lost 3 pounds.

I agree that desert is important!  I'm loving fat free lemon sorbet!  High in sugar (but what dessert isn't), but only 60 cals a serving.

Just make sure you know what you're eating. NO guessing, you'll mostly likely underestimate and be shocked later.
